COUPLES COUNSELING

Through expert couples counseling, you can learn to navigate differences, creating successful outcomes.

We understand that marriage and relationships take a lot of work. What we’ve found is, with couples counseling, if both people are willing to put in a healthy effort to make things work, the outcome can be truly special.

Unfortunately, many marriages and relationships suffer largely due to a lack of communication, distrust, feeling disrespected, not feeling safe and protected, abuse whether it be verbal or physical, addiction issues, problems with children, and emotional disconnect, just to name a few.

Couples Counseling for the Modern World

Our practice specializes in marriage counseling, relationship counseling, and couples counseling of patients throughout Westchester County and online in New York and Connecticut.

We empower our patients to engage in new strategies and insights that promote healthier relationships. We will work with you independently or together with your partner to settle your problems, resolve conflicts, and reestablish trust and hope in your relationship.

Throughout the years, we have helped numerous couples put an end to their differences and helped them in fostering permanent outcomes.

Additionally, we can help if you are:

  • Considering separation or divorce;
  • Feeling like you have tried everything and have run out of solutions;
  • Noticing emotional, behavior, or learning problems with your children as a reaction to your relationship problems;
  • Or experiencing trust issues related to infidelity; and
  • Tired of arguing over and over about the same problems with no results.

Couples Counseling in Westchester, NYC, and Online – A Psychodynamic Approach

Life’s repetitions can quietly erode even the strongest relationships. The same arguments loop endlessly. Emotional distance grows. Old wounds from family histories surface in everyday tensions, leaving partners feeling misunderstood, disconnected, or unseen. If you and your partner are navigating conflict, infidelity, life transitions, intimacy concerns, or the quiet drift of growing apart, couples counseling offers a path toward deeper understanding and meaningful reconnection.

As a doctorate-level trained psychoanalyst and licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience, I provide couples counseling from a psychodynamic perspective. This approach goes beyond surface-level communication techniques. Together, we explore the deeper, often unconscious meanings behind recurring patterns—the “why” beneath the fights about dishes, money, parenting, or emotional availability. We examine how each partner’s family-of-origin experiences, early relational templates, and internalized dynamics shape the current relationship script.

How I Work with Couples Psychodynamically

In our work, I create a safe, neutral space where both partners can be heard without judgment. We slow down the reactive cycles—the pre-written scripts that escalate before anyone truly listens—and begin to unpack what’s really being communicated beneath the words.

  • Identifying Repetitive Patterns: Many couples find themselves stuck in familiar loops. Psychodynamic couples work helps illuminate these repetitions, revealing how past relational injuries or unmet needs are being reenacted in the present. By bringing these patterns into awareness, we create room for new, more adaptive ways of relating.
  • Exploring Deeper Meanings and Emotional Truths: Surface conflicts often symbolize larger themes—longing for validation, fears of abandonment, struggles with vulnerability, or defenses built from earlier life experiences. We gently explore these layers so each partner can better understand their own reactions and their partner’s inner world.
  • Rebuilding Trust and Connection: Whether recovering from infidelity, addressing emotional disconnection, or navigating major life changes, we focus on earned trust, honest accountability, and the gradual rebuilding of intimacy. This includes processing betrayal, setting healthy boundaries, and fostering the emotional safety needed for vulnerability to return.
  • Family of Origin and Intergenerational Dynamics: I pay close attention to how each person’s upbringing influences the partnership. Understanding these roots reduces blame and opens compassion, helping couples break free from inherited patterns and create something new together.

My approach is collaborative and results-oriented. We work as partners toward relieving symptoms of distress while building stronger communication, greater empathy, and a more resilient bond. Some couples use this process to grow closer; others gain clarity to part ways with respect and understanding. Both paths are honored with care and support.
